Java Developer – Multithreaded - Low latency – Banking - London

A specialist consultancy has an opportunity for a Java Developer to join a major banks equity technology division in a true full lifecycle role. The client is seeing a considerable increase of trading volumes in the European cash equity business and to manage the increasing volumes a new project has been given the green light which aims to re-engineer a number of market adaptors and the order execution functionality that underpins them.

This is a technically and professionally challenging opportunity for a keen, analytical Java Developer to challenge their multithreaded programming skills on a range of server side development tasks. You will join a highly skilled team with a strong technical bias towards core Java who are experienced in developing software for low latency, high throughput systems. They are looking for a talented software engineer with a solution driven approach and the intellect to grasp a range of concepts and new technologies pertaining to high performance trading systems (e.g. the FIX protocol, Market Links Development).

You will have very strong core Java coding skills and be keen to challenge yourself with complex message intensive, high volume systems architecture. Other essential skills include multi-threaded programming, Spring framework, Oracle PL/SQL, XML based GUI frameworks and Unix. You will also have excellent communication skills and some experience of working to an Agile methodology. Ideal additional skills cover Swing GUI/Webstart, Maven/Ant/JUnit, shell scripting, real time transactional databases and knowledge of design patterns.

We are particularly interested in C# GUI Developers with solid C# skills to join a global organisation to design, develop and maintain GUI applications in C#. It is important that you have a good understanding of OO programming and design concepts.

We need you to have experience of developing large complex systems. Ideally you will have experience of most of the following:

A major investment bank is seeking a support analyst with a strong focus on ownership of issues and commitment to resolving them. You will be working in European Cash Execution supporting the Bank’s bespoke Direct Execution trading applications. You will be responsible for the production stability of these applications and contribute to the ongoing process improvement efforts of the team to increase system availability and supportability over time. The role covers first and second line support throughout European trading hours, and at times outside of these hours (on a roster basis) to support system upgrades and other incidents that may require resolution before the market opens.

You will come from a technical application support background. Your technical background will be based towards Unix/Linux and you will possess shell scripting skills as well as good experience with SQL. Experience with the FIX protocol is advantageous.

You will be a keen team player who is willing to learn new technologies and build a solid understanding of the business context of the applications. The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a proven track record of building successful working relationships with managers and peers at all levels of an organisation. You will also have a solid degree.

Junior project assistant – Test coordinator – VBA - banking – London

We run a talent development programme in conjunction with leading investment banks and global financial services companies which is aimed at recent graduates with 1-5 years of work experience.

We are particularly interested in recent IT graduates who are willing to consider testing as a career. As an entry level test coordinator, much of your initial duties will be assisting the line manager in maintaining a variety of departmental reports using agreed systems. It is essential that you are an advanced user of Excel and can write macros. You will also be performing junior project management and business analysis duties as well as basic ad hoc test execution exercises in line with established protocols.

This role will provide exposure to the full front to back life cycle of a global high performance, high throughput cash equities trading system. The methodology used is a best of breed combination of Agile and Waterfall.

This role could lead into a QA role or take the individual into a BA/PM role.

Skills Required:

• Advanced knowledge of Excel to include macros
• A basic knowledge of economics and the IB industry.
• A willingness to learn and quickly adapt to changing requirements.
