Java Developer – Multithreaded - Low latency – Banking - London
A specialist consultancy has an opportunity for a Java Developer to join a major banks equity technology division in a true full lifecycle role. The client is seeing a considerable increase of trading volumes in the European cash equity business and to manage the increasing volumes a new project has been given the green light which aims to re-engineer a number of market adaptors and the order execution functionality that underpins them.
This is a technically and professionally challenging opportunity for a keen, analytical Java Developer to challenge their multithreaded programming skills on a range of server side development tasks. You will join a highly skilled team with a strong technical bias towards core Java who are experienced in developing software for low latency, high throughput systems. They are looking for a talented software engineer with a solution driven approach and the intellect to grasp a range of concepts and new technologies pertaining to high performance trading systems (e.g. the FIX protocol, Market Links Development).
You will have very strong core Java coding skills and be keen to challenge yourself with complex message intensive, high volume systems architecture. Other essential skills include multi-threaded programming, Spring framework, Oracle PL/SQL, XML based GUI frameworks and Unix. You will also have excellent communication skills and some experience of working to an Agile methodology. Ideal additional skills cover Swing GUI/Webstart, Maven/Ant/JUnit, shell scripting, real time transactional databases and knowledge of design patterns.

You will be working in European Cash Execution supporting the Bank’s bespoke Direct Execution trading applications. You will be responsible for the production stability of these applications and contribute to the ongoing process improvement efforts of the team to increase system availability and supportability over time. The role covers first and second line support throughout European trading hours, and at times outside of these hours (on a roster basis) to support system upgrades and other incidents that may require resolution before the market opens.
You will come from a technical application support background. Your technical background will be based towards Unix/Linux and you will possess shell scripting skills as well as good experience with SQL. Experience with the FIX protocol is advantageous.
