As Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer reporting to our Head of Customer Quality, your key responsibility will be to provide mechanical engineering expertise to optimise existing product/process design and diagnose failure modes. To get to grips with the issues, we expect you to quickly develop a sound understanding of metrology process with reference to our system design intent, and its impact on measurement. Armed with this knowledge you will deliver continuous improvement projects to maximise customer satisfaction, reduce costs and grow revenue throughout the product life-cycle. Projects could be delivered in isolation, or as part of a multi-disciplined team, and will require you to deal directly with external customers and end-users, including on-site visits where necessary.
As the role develops, you will also provide engineering support and consultancy to other internal departments, particularly around manufacturing build and new product design, and prove yourself capable of career progression within the organisation, for example, by taking the lead on project/design reviews and facilitating/directing solutions.
With a good Degree-level education in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or a related discipline, you show a passion for precision engineering, from concept development and design right through to production and on-going support. Manufacturing engineering, materials, methods, processes and quality systems are all be familiar to you, and you have experience in 3D CAD and Maths, MS Word and Excel and the application of Finite Element Analysis to engineering development. Additionally, you’re an analytical problem-solver, and bring a real attention to detail in all that you do. Your attitude and all round communication skills give you the ability to share information easily and influence other key stakeholders to help achieve your objectives.
